Central Water Agency bubuin ni Pangulong Duterte!

The government will soon establish a central water agency to ensure the efficient management of water resources in the country.

President Duterte announced the planned rationalization of the country’s water-related agencies during the convention of the Philippine Association of Water Districts in Davao City last Thursday

“We will establish a central water agency under which all water-related functions will be addressed. It’s coming during my term,” the President said in his remarks.

The President acknowledged there was a need to “rationalize” the water management system after noticing the overlapping of functions. Among the country’s water agencies are Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, Local Water Utilities Administration, and National Water Regulatory Board.

“What is more important to be discussed here is the need to rationalize the whole system of… the gamut of procedures and jurisdiction parang overlapping, who gives to authority to what and whose final judgment is it that we follow,” he said.

The President also ordered authorities “not to make it hard” for local water utilities to process their documents needed for their operations. He also warned them against asking for money from contractors in exchange of swift delivery of government service.

“Do not be a hindrance… Do not make it hard for the local utilities because we need water,” he said in Filipino.
