Light trucks will be banned from EDSA and Shaw Boulevard starting on March 15 until June 15, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Friday, as it tests a new scheme to ease traffic in the capital.
The ban will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, the MMDA said in a statement.
Firetrucks and ambulances are exempted from the ban, light trucks delivering perishable goods will need to apply for exemptions.
"There is a necessity to regulate the light trucks on the roads which have also contributed significantly to traffic congestion in the metropolis," MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said.
Under the resolution, violators will be slapped with a P2,000 fine.
