President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said he has given the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) the go signal to use all available assets against the New People's Army (NPA).

Duterte made the remark after the NPA ambushed policemen in Davao del Sur earlier this week, killing four and wounding another.

"Wala pa namang peace talks. It’s totally absent. So in the meantime, I would just also ask the Armed Forces and the police, just go ahead and wage a war against them," he said during a media interview after visiting the wake of the police officers killed in the ambush.

"Anything goes pud mo. And I will allow the police and the military this time to use all available assets. Gamiton nila. Naa man tay bag-ong eroplano, jets. Makit-an mana nimo kay giignan man nako sila na isuroy. Use them. Gamita ang mga rockets. Ug naay collateral damage, pasensya," he added, as the crowd applauded and cheered.

[Anything goes also for you. And I will allow the police and the military this time to use all available assets. Use them. We have new aircraft, jets. You will see it because I told them to fly them. Use them. Use the rockets. If there are collateral damage, I'm sorry.]

Instead of getting mad, Duterte said he pities the communists because the government is ready to fight for another 50 years and the people would never want them in power.

"Maong nakaingon ko na naluoy ko sa ila because the Filipino would never want them in power. I would insist on that theory. Kamo, gusto mo? Kamo diha sa likod, gusto ba mo?" he said.

The crowd responded no.

"Singkwenta anyos na ta gaaway eh. So we extend it to another 50 years pero never will have the… never would have the chance really sila to gain power. Ang mga tao ang dili gusto," he said.

[We've been fighting for 50 years. So we extend it to another 50 years but (you) never will have the… never would have the chance really sila to gain power. The people do not want it.]

Well-laid trap

Duterte said the NPA tricked the police that there was a murder in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. He said that a scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) team was the first respondent to a call.

"Ang SOCO fundamentally is a police organization under the -- or agency under the police organization. Pero dili na sila combatants, they are not even allowed to -- they don’t bother to bring in mga baril... It was a well-laid trap," he said.

But Duterte believes that what happened to the policemen was not an overkill.

"No, it’s not an overkill actually it’s a question of honor... It’s a question of honor. Alam mo we fight a war and as the revolutionary ideology would put it, it’s a kind of ideological cannibalism because you devour your own kind. You kill your own brother and sisters in thy name in the altar of a revolution," he said.

"Because it is a war among Filipinos, your countrymen," he added.
