President Rodrigo Duterte's plan to build P8.4 trillion in new roads, railways and bridges will generate one million jobs every year, one of his economic managers said Thursday.
The projects planned "Dutertenomics" includes the first subway in Metro Manila, home to roughly one tenth of the country's 100 million population, and the first railway in Mindanao.
"Roughly one million direct and indirect jobs per year" will be generated by the construction of railways and highways, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said.
Diokno said most of the projects would be funded through the national budget and international grants or loans.
The projects will be constructed on a "24/7" basis, when possible, he said.
