While he was only in power for less than three years, ousted president and now Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada knows how a Chief Executive's punishing schedule could take a toll on any leader.
And so, he said, the public should give President Rodrigo Duterte some quiet time, as he also deserves rest given his busy schedule.
“Let's give him the privilege of being alone—maraming problema [ang Pilipinas], kahit ako noon ‘di makatulog,” said Estrada on the sidelines of the launch of the Miss Manila 2017 pageant.
Estrada was president from 1998 until January 2001, when he was ousted over plunder charges.
Speculation about Duterte’s health swirled this week after he missed the Independence Day rites in Rizal Park on Monday, supposedly his first commemoration as president.
He took a break from public events for several days. On Thursday, amid questions on his whereabouts, Malacañang released photos of the president at work at his official residence.
The Palace also released a separate set of photos showing the President while on a visit at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
